Caring For Your Denture

Plaque will form on dentures as it does on natural teeth. If it is not removed on a daily basis your dentures will not look clean, you may experience profound denture odours and your mouth could be at risk from fungal infections. So it is very important to clean your dentures every day, ideally after every meal. There are many different techniques for cleaning your denture and it is important to find a system that works for you. If you are unsure or unhappy with your current cleaning regime, I can recommend this basic list to care for your dentures.

Daily Cleaning Routine

1. Before you start, fill your sink with water or line it with a towel, if you drop the denture, it will not break against the hard basin.

2. Rinse your denture thoroughly in water to remove any loose food particles. Use hot, but not boiling water.

3. Use a dedicated denture cleaner or paste. Conventional toothpaste contains abrasives which can damage an acrylic denture.

4. Use a ‘Denture Brush’ to clean all the services of your denture. Do not scrub. If you are experiencing stubborn stains or tartar build up, ask The Denture Clinic for a professional clean and polish.
